Location: Toronto
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Managing the performance, health and support of enterprise database systems
- Evaluating and identifying issues in existing databases and proactively implement permanent fixes or improvements
- Managing regular database procedures including upgrades, migration, backup, recovery and so on.
- Participating in on-call support rotation including after-hours/weekend
- Conducting performance tuning and ensure high availability of enterprise infrastructure, including OS and storage subsystem
- Documenting design and database information
- Analyzing and troubleshooting issues within the database environments
- Managing database security models for controlling data access
- Supporting the management team to set priorities and ensure timely delivery of projects
- Setting up and configuring replication as needed and implementing HA/DR best practices
- Performing database improvement strategies to drive performance and uptime of the databases.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- University or post-secondary education
- 3+ years relevant experience
- Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases systems (RDBMS). Knowledge of Postgres DB is an asset.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP & Azure)
- 4+ years’ of experience using shell scripting in a Linux / Unix environment.
- Good scripting and automation experience
- Experience with 24x7 production databases and ability to respond to issues rapidly
- Strong knowledge of designing and implementing DB replication strategies
- Exposure to designing and automating repetitive processes
- Good team player with strong analytical, communication and troubleshooting skills
- Strong proficiency in MySQL database management
- Exposure to NoSQL databases and version control systems.
- Strong knowledge of application stack and resolution of data-related issues.
- Knowledge of operation and deployment of High Availability database systems to support applications.
- Exposure to Extract Transform, Load(ETL) workflows, data warehouse design, and reporting workloads.
- Technically savvy with knowledge of Object-oriented programming (OOP).
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies
