Database Administrator

Location:  Toronto

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Managing the performance, health and support of enterprise database systems
• Evaluating and identifying issues in existing databases and proactively  implement permanent fixes or improvements
• Managing regular database procedures including upgrades, migration, backup, recovery and so on.
• Participating in on-call support rotation including after-hours/weekend
• Conducting performance tuning and ensure high availability of enterprise infrastructure, including OS and storage subsystem
• Documenting design and database information
• Analyzing and troubleshooting issues within the database environments
• Managing database security models for controlling data access
• Supporting the management team to set priorities and ensure timely delivery of projects
• Setting up and configuring replication as needed and implementing HA/DR best practices
• Performing database improvement strategies to drive performance and uptime of the databases.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• University or post-secondary education
• 3+ years relevant  experience
• Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases systems (RDBMS). Knowledge of Postgres DB is an asset.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP & Azure)
• 4+ years’ of experience using shell scripting in a Linux / Unix environment.
• Good scripting and automation experience
• Experience with 24x7 production databases and ability to respond to issues rapidly
• Strong knowledge of designing and implementing DB replication strategies
• Exposure to designing and automating repetitive processes
• Good team player with strong analytical, communication and troubleshooting skills
• Strong proficiency in MySQL database management
• Exposure to NoSQL databases and version control systems.
• Strong knowledge of application stack and resolution of data-related issues.
• Knowledge of operation and deployment of High Availability database systems to support applications.
• Exposure to Extract Transform, Load(ETL) workflows, data warehouse design, and reporting workloads.
• Technically savvy with knowledge of Object-oriented programming (OOP).
• Knowledge of Agile methodologies
